Weekend Routines
As someone who works full time it is very common for me to try and utilize the two days I have off for rest, relaxation, and resetting myself. During the weekend a lot of plans can be made, events happen, and my schedule gets thrown off it's rhythm. However, there is one thing I know is necessary every single weekend, and that is the Sunday reset. This is a common term that people use, but I never realized how truly important taking a reset day is.
Saturday in my opinion is a rest and rejuvenation day. My Saturday strongly focuses on resting, so sleeping in, playing a video game, reading, doing everything that I want to focus on and enjoy. I will make fun plans on Saturday, and make sure the overall day is to rest, have fun, and feel rejuvenated. That's what allows for Sunday to be a reset day.
The rest I receive on Saturday is VITAL if I want to perform a Sunday reset, otherwise I have to use Sunday to rest because of overextending myself. While I know cleaning is not the most exciting thing, I have learned to truly enjoy having a clean environment, and being able to find relaxation in my space.
A Sunday reset involves cleaning, but also taking care of yourself and checking in with how you feel throughout the week. Working is a lot of our week, and if we are not careful our job can take over our entire life. While having a career is something that is a large blessing, it is also something that we need to balance to truly live. Which is why I advocate so strongly for the Sunday reset.
How to reset
If you want to partake in a reset but don't know how to go about it, that's okay. It takes a second to settle into a routine that is effective and efficient for the rest of your week. There are numerous ways to reset, whether it be a full deep clean, or just tidying up, and it can change depending on the week.
In my opinion the best way to reset is to make your bed. Wash the sheets, organize your pillows, and give yourself a nice space where you can rest when the reset is over. While your sheets are being washed, wipe down your surfaces. So much dust collects throughout the week and it is so nice to give your space a fresh wipe down. Also make sure to remove any trash in your room. Whether it's a fast food cup, paper, or your trash can, emptying this out gives your room a fresh new start for the week as well. If you still have motivation after all this, feel free to deep clean, donate some things, remove clutter, or rearrange and organize your things.
Another way I like to reset is mentally. Typically cleaning helps this, but if I still feel like my thoughts are jumbled, I will journal or do partake in a restful hobby. Playing a cozy video game, knitting, or embroidering have been the hobbies I have been partaking in the most to give myself rest. The week can be stressful enough, why not take some time to take your mind off things and relax?
Utilizing Your Reset for the Rest of the Week
During this time I also like to look for ways to improve the rest of my week. This can include making a pile of books I want to read, putting a hobby I want to try on my desk, or simply finishing a task I have been putting off. I believe that Sunday is the day to make the rest of the week work smarter, not harder. With having the tedious not as fun to-do items out of the way, the rest of the week can be made easier and more exciting. I hope that I gave you some ideas on how to improve your week in one day!
